Lawrence Edward Page, also known as Larry Page, is the co-founder of Google. Page was born in East Lansing, Michigan on March 26, 1973, and is now 49 years old. He earned a degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan in 1995 where he then worked towards a doctorate at Stanford University, which is where he met his co-founder, Brin. He ended up leaving Stanford with Brin to pursue their company. Together the two wanted to further advance the ability to access the mass amount of data living on the Internet. This led to the largest search engine in the world to this date, but to do so he needed funds. He and Brin worked to raise over 1 million dollars from close friends and investors to get their company started and expanded. The name of the company, Google, after a misunderstanding of the term "googel" which has 100 zeros following a 1. Google was first founded in 1998 where Page was named chief executive officer. After a few years he stepped down as CEO but remained a part of the company. In August 2004, the company issued its initial public offering, causing Page to earn around $3.8 billion. A few years later, Google bought YouTube, the largest video streaming service at the time. In 2011 Page resumed his work as CEO of Google before being CEO of Alphabet Inc., also highly involved with Google. In December 2019 he stepped down from CEO but continued to serve as a director on the board.
